Q&A with the expert
Chris Bishop
How long have you been working for DMS?
Wow, 20 years! It's incredible how time flies. I started my journey with DMS back in April 2004, beginning in the Stores Warehouse when it was just a small operation. Since then, I've expanded into various other roles and areas within the company.
What would you say your strengths are?
I possess strengths across various aspects of the workplace and industry. However, my standout skill lies in my ability to engage and retain individuals on the phone for extended periods (a private joke with the team, sometimes a bit too long). I excel in sharing my extensive knowledge with customers and contacts, ensuring they receive comprehensive assistance and support.
What is your favourite part of your job?
I thoroughly enjoy travelling to meet new contacts, as it allows me to expand my network and deepen relationships. Additionally, I'm always eager to get hands-on by providing onsite support whenever needed. Furthermore, I take great pleasure in being heavily involved in presenting and offering CPDs (Continuing Professional Development) to anyone seeking to broaden their knowledge base. It's fulfilling to contribute to the growth and development of others in the industry.
If you were to create a slogan for DMS, what would it be and why?
The UK's Leading Metering and Control supplier – no explanation necessary!
How do you manage your time?
I manage my time by prioritizing tasks, setting clear goals, and using tools like calendars and to-do lists to stay organized and focused. Additionally, having a great team to collaborate with contributes significantly to the success.
What advice would you give to someone new in the industry?
Don't hesitate to voice your ideas, even if there's a chance they might be rejected. Engage with your colleagues, bounce ideas off each other, and brainstorm together. Some of the best ideas often emerge unexpectedly, so it's crucial to stay open and receptive. And remember to jot down those brilliant ideas when they come to you!
If you could invent something to BMS and Engineers, what would it be?
If I could invent something to assist Building Management Systems (BMS) and engineers, it would be a smart integrated platform that centralizes control and monitoring of building systems. This platform would offer real-time data analytics, predictive maintenance alerts, and remote access capabilities. Wait, that sounds like LoRaWAN networks, please call me about them…
How do you enjoy spending your spare time?
With four children, much of my spare time is dedicated to being with them as much as possible. We always strive to make our time together enjoyable and filled with laughter. It's precious moments like these that truly matter.
