Gas Safety Week 2021
13th – 19th September 2021
DMS Metering Solutions – supporting Gas Safety Week 2021.
As always DMS are promoting awareness of the importance of practising gas safety, this year is no exception. For this year's gas safety week, we have put together a list of points to keep you safe!
So, without further ado, here are our tips!
Only use a GAS SAFE REGISTERED engineer to fit, fix and service your gas appliances – you can find and check for an engineer here: GasSafeRegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500.
Know what to do in an emergency – we highly recommend reading this guide from the Gas Safe Register website - https://www.gassaferegister.co.uk/what-to-do-in-an-emergency/ - remember if you smell gas or suspect something isn’t right – make the call!
Be aware of the 6 signs of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning – see our list below. Unsafe gas appliances can put you at risk of CO poisoning, gas leaks, fires, and explosions.
Regularly service your gas appliances – this should be done yearly.
Never use a gas appliance for something that is not its intended purpose – it’s never a good idea to use a cooker to heat a room.
Did you know that you can check if your area is gas safe? Simply click the below link and enter your postcode. It will display any risks in your area. You can also use this to set reminders for your annual gas safety checks. https://www.staygassafe.co.uk/
Finally, we would like to touch on Carbon Monoxide (CO).
CO is a poisonous gas which is no taste, colour, or smell. CO poisoning can cause serious illness and death. It is vital to know the signs of a CO leak. Here are the symptoms to look out for:
1. Headaches
2. Dizziness
3. Nausea
4. Breathlessness
5. Collapse
6. Loss of consciousness
Look out for signs of a carbon monoxide leak! the usual signs are increased condensation inside of windows, dark or sooty staining on gas appliances, pilot lights that blow frequently or a floppy yellow or orange flame on your gas hob. If you spot these warning signs, follow the recommended procedures listed by the gas safe register - https://www.gassaferegister.co.uk/help-and-advice/carbon-monoxide-poisoning/
