Metering approvals and their meanings.
WRAS
WRAS is an approval that is given to products that are deemed to be of suitable quality and standard, and most importantly safe to be used with potable water.
Any water meter that would be used with public mains water would need to carry WRAS approval. WRAS stands for Water Regulations Advisory Scheme.
MID
MID is a directive by the European Union, MID stands for Measuring Instruments Directive. If fiscal billing is required for MID approval is a must for your heat, gas and water meters.
You can visibly see if the meter has MID approval by looking out for the CE mark, a capital M in a rectangle with 2 digits (year of its affixing) or by the ID number of the notified body that was involved in the conformity assessment.
MID ensures that the measurement given is accurate.
RHI
The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a Government environmental programme designed to increase the uptake of renewable heat technologies, by providing incentive payments to eligible generators of renewable heat for commercial, industrial, not for profit and public sector purposes and to producers of biomethane.
RHI Compliant Metering System Requirements - As RHI payments will be made on the basis of heat meter readings, the Government will require participants to use heat meters that have met certain standards to provide assurance that payments are based on accurate measurements and to consumers.
DMS Metering Solutions stock a wide variety of RHI heat meters that satisfy the Class 2 requirements listed in Annex MI-004 of the EU Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) 2004.23.
