European Directive 2004/22/EC is aimed at harmonising the regulations and classifications in the area of water metering across Europe. With effect from 30th October 2006 it replaces all European directives and national regulations making it necessary for all water meters to meet the standard of NF EN14154 and/or recommendation OIML R49.

So what does this mean in practice? Well it changes the baseline that is used to define the metering performance of a water meter.

A water meter is now defined by:

• Q3 : Continuous flowrate
• R : Q3/Q1 ratio (where Q1 is the flowrate)

Secondary characteristics are:

• Q2 : The transition flowrate given by Q2/Q1
• Q4 : The overload flowrate given by Q4/Q3

This means that the possible values of Q3 (measured in cubic metres) and R are:

Can you still buy and fit class A, B & C water meters?

Yes for 10 years at the most as products approved before the MID (Oct 2006) were approved for a 10 year period.

The HZ3 Oil Meter can be used as a measuring device for kerosene fuel oil and diesel fuel. The meter now comes with a pulse output (HZ3 RR) for BMS systems or counting devices.

Even the smallest quantities can be measured with the greatest accuracy. You simply read off your oil consumption. The calibrated oil meter (calibration is valid for ten years) permits accurate consumption calculations and is moreover extremely robust with a long service life.

The HZ 3 oil meter can also be supplied with or without a pulse output (remote reading) if desired and with calibration certification which is valid throughout the EU.

Diaphragm Gas Meters

Samgas & Elster range of Diaphragm Gas Meters G2.5 to G100 offer a very wide measuring range designed for working upto 0.5 bar. All models are available with the option of Low Frequency pulse outputs for use with Energy Monitoring Systems. The principal elements of the meter are a pressed steel casing internally and externally coated against corrosion. A measuring module which is inserted into the casing a complete unit and a magnetic coupling transmitting the movement to the index.
 
For ‘Smart Metering’ applications Elster Diaphragm Gas Meters are also available with an m-bus interface by using the BK Z6-1 Absolute Encoder index.

Turbine Gas Meters

QA & QAe Turbine Gas Meters

QA Quantometers are highly reliable gas meters which can be used throughout the entire field of flow metering and which fulfil all of the varying requirements of industrial metering.
The QA and QAe quantometers work on the principle of the rotating turbine wheel. The rotation of the turbine wheel is proportional to the volume of the flowing gas and this volume (Vb/m3 ) is registered by either a mechanical (QA) or an electronic (QAe) index. The QA & QAe  turbine gas meters are available in sizes DN 25 (1″) to DN 150

For ‘Smart Metering’ applications the QAe Gas Meters with electronic indexes are also available which have an EN1434 m-bus interface as standard.

Q75 Short Pattern Turbine Gas Flow Meters

The Q/Q75 series of quantometers are well known in the field of industry and commerce as robust and accurate turbine meters. They have a low price and are particularly suitable for highly-accurate and reliable metering, also in higher flow and pressure ranges.

Roots Rotary Positive Displacement Meters

The ROOTS© meter is designed to accurately measure the total volume of dry gasses and gas mixtures. The time tested and accepted ROOTS© meter with its permanent accuracy employs the rotary positive displacement principle. This built-in accuracy is fixed by precision machined impellers and a rigid measuring chamber. Measurement is not affected by changes in gas specific gravity of pressure nor by wide fluctuating flows. The ROOTS© meter is available in sizes DN 50 to DN 200

CPT Turbine Gas Meters

The CPT Quantometer is a turbine gas flow meter based on the rotation of an impellor, the speed of rotation being proportional to the flow rate of the gas. A magnetic linkage transfers this movement to the mechanical index, which provides an accurate reading of totalized gas flow and a scaled pulse output for remote reading etc. The meters are constructed for installation between flanges like a “sandwich”. The index head can be rotated through 350 degrees. The CPT  turbine gas meter is available in sizes DN 50 to DN 200

The Tecnocontrol range of products cover single to multi-zone applications with a large coverage of gases the central controllers can be wall or panel (front or DIN rail) mounted.

To compliment the gas detection range there is a range of auto or manual gas safety valves all with a closed position switch option for BMS control.

The Cube 300 is a very low cost panel-mount 3-phase kWh and kW meter with a pulse output and accuracy better than Class 1. Its ‘Right First Time’ installation aids (kW display, CT, VT and Pulse value displays) clearly show if the meter is correctly wired and programmed.
